Install SkillSoft Components
This server installation provides remote access to the SkillSoft Course Player, SCM, Simulation Player, Legacy IT Player, e3 Player, Classic Player, Passive Player, and course content to web server-connected user workstations.
Pre-Installation Considerations
- The setup automatically includes the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) v.1.4.1_02.
- If you need to change any parameters in the installervalues.properties file (for example, to modify AICC and SCORM parameters), you must save the changes prior to running the Installer. The installervalues.properties is located at the root of the Installer kit. If you need to make edits and your kit is on CD, then you must copy the Installer kit to a hard drive and edit the file there. Then, run the Installer from your hard drive.
- If you are running your content server on Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition, you must define some mime types for IIS 6.0. See Windows 2003 Server Configuration for more information about this procedure.
Installation Procedure
- Stop IIS.
- Run the installer.exe file located in the root directory of the Installer software provided to you by SkillSoft.
- The Welcome screen displays. Click the Next button.

- The License Agreement screen appears. Read this information, and then select I accept the terms of this license agreement. Click the Next button.
Note: You must select I accept the terms of this license agreement to continue the installation.

- Choose the installation directory of the content server that you are installing to.

- Enter the physical path you want to install to (the default path c:\skillsoft is recommended). To select a different physical path, type it in the field or use the Browse button.
Note: If you are using SkillPort and the content server on a single machine, select the same directory where the LMS is installed.
- At the Installation Type Selection screen choose an installation option:
- Typical Installation (default) - for a standard installation of the SkillSoft software.
- Custom Installation - to specify what SkillSoft components are installed.
- Course Only Installation - to install SkillSoft courses only.
Note: If this is the first time you install from a new Installer kit, you must first install the latest SkillSoft Content File to the server. This is because the Installer reads from the sp6content.xml file on the server when it prepares courses for install. If you have not already installed the latest content xml file, choose Custom Installation, deselect all the installation options except for Install SkillSoft Content File, click Next, and complete the installation. Verify that you now have this file on your server: <content_dir>\Web\Content\Player\sp6content.xml. Then return to the beginning of this section to perform the course and software installation.
