Creating Custom Curriculum CDs

Use these instructions to produce a customized arrangement of content on a CD, including SkillSoft courses and the SkillSoft Course Manager (SCM). You may arrange the curricula as you like onto a target CD and distribute copies to the learners. Follow the procedures in this document to ensure that your courses and SCM file and folder structure are complete so that courses correctly play.

Customizing the Arrangement of SkillSoft Content

  1. Copy the SkillSoft CD-ROM_Player directory to your desktop.

    You may have received the CD-ROM_Player directory on an actual CD or via FTP download. Contact your SkillSoft representative for assistance.

  2. Customize any properties you want to modify on the master CD:

    If you are not going to use the SkillSoft CD-ROM_Player with SkillPort's Results Upload Manager (RUM) feature, customize the ocm.ini file in the SkillSoft CD-ROM_Player directory to disable the Export button.

  3. Open the ocm.ini file in Notepad (in the following location of the CD-ROM_Player directory: content/client/<language>/ocm.ini).
  4. Change exportResult=true to exportResult=false

    Note: You must have a carriage return/new line character after the end of the parameter value.

  5. Save the file.

    Note: To customize the mastery threshold or to enable partial credit scoring see the sections below for more information.

  6. Insert the SkillSoft Library CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  7. Copy the applicable courses and simulations from the SkillSoft Library CD to the appropriate folder of the SkillSoft CD-ROM_Player directory located on your desktop:
    • for Business Skills courses, copy course folders to the \courses folder.
    • for IT courses, copy course folders to the \ITContent folder.
    • for Simulations, copy simulation folders to the \SimContent\Player folder.
    • for Classic and e3 courses, copy course folders to the \cbtlib folder.
    • for NLS courses, copy course folders to the \Content\NLS_Content folder.
    • for KNET courses, copy course folders to the \Content\KNET_Content folder.
    • for CCA courses copy course folders to \Content\cca folder.

      Make sure you have "Show Hidden Files and Folders" enabled on the CD burner machine (set from Windows Explorer, Tools: Folder Options: View). This setting is required in order to ensure all necessary files are copied to the master CD.

      If you copy Simulations to your master CD, be sure to also include any business skills courses referenced by the simulations. These courses are required for the simulation reference feature to work properly.

  8. Create your master CD. Copy the contents of the SkillSoft CD-ROM_Player directory from your desktop to the master CD by following the instructions for your CD-ROM burner.

    Note: Do not copy the CD-ROM_Player folder to the master CD, just the contents of the folder. If you simply copy the entire directory to the master CD, it will not function correctly.

  9. Verify that courses play correctly from the new master CD following the procedures in the readme-scd.htm file, located in the CD's root directory.
  10. Make copies of the master CD as needed for distribution to the learners.
  11. Repeat steps 1-7 above for each unique arrangement of content.

Customizing the Mastery Threshold

To customize the Mastery Threshold for the Classic Player or the e3 Player, change the values in the ocm.ini file in the SkillSoft CD-ROM_Player directory.

  1. Open the ocm.ini file in Notepad (in the following location of the CD-ROM_Player directory: content/client/<language>/ocm.ini)
  2. Change the value of these parameters (a value of 0 sets the mastery threshold to the default value of 70%):

    CLASSIC_MASTERY_THRESHOLD=70

    E3_MASTERY_THRESHOLD=70

    Note: You must have a carriage return/new line character after the end of the parameter value

  3. Save the file.

Enabling Partial Credit Scoring

To enable partial credit scoring, edit the player properties files and set the Partial Credit property to true: PARTIAL_CREDIT=true

  • If you make modifications in the player properties file, and there is a properties version number at the top of the file, increment the last digit.

    For example, if you see version 3.1.0, increment it to 3.1.1:

    PagePlayerProperties.version=3.1.1

  • The player properties files are located in these paths from the root directory:
    • \content\client\pageplayer.properties
    • \content\client\<language>\pageplayer.properties
