HACP commands

HACP provides a number of commands to perform communications interactions. These commands are described in section A.6.2 of the AICC CMI specification.

While many commands are optional, an LMS such as Skillport must support three commands to comply with the AICC CMI specification. The learning object, on the other hand, is obliged to issue only one command, but may issue the other two commands as needed. These are:

GetParam - The learning object can use this command to retrieve data from the LMS.
PutParam - The learning object can use this command to send student progress data to the LMS using the HTML post method.
ExitAU - The learning object is obliged to issue this command to end the session between it and the LMS.

The format of the data sent to the LMS is described in section 5.2 of the AICC CMI specification. Essentially, it is the same format as a Windows INI file with a series of groups, keywords, and assigned values. However, as this is sent using the HTTP-based protocol, it is URL encoded when sent, as described in section A.5.1 of the AICC CMI specification.
