Metadata
Most of the SPCSF data is obtained from a single metadata/lom element in the manifest file. An SPCSF file consists of a single Block element and a single SCO sub-element, both of which can be ’made’ from a single metadata element. This metadata is known as ‘course-level’ metadata.
Elements are parsed in order of preference in the manifest file for their metadata sub-element (if they have one) for describing the course:
- Content Package metadata – manifest file’s metadata element: describes the content aggregation (the course)
- Default organization element’s metadata
- Top-level (first) item element in the default organization – even if it represents a block and not an SCO
- Top-level SCO item element – this is an item element in the organization element that represents a SCO (and therefore references a SCO resource element); this metadata describes the first SCO in the course
- First SCO resource: content independent metadata
