SkillStudio Content Best Practices
- SkillStudio course IDs can be lower case letters.
- Do not include [tm] in the Course Title (for example, “Developing J2EE[tm] Compliant Java[tm] Applications Test")
- By default, these courses are saved in
C:\SkillSoft\source\COURSE_ID.
Folder Structure
In the following example, the following SkillStudio course ID is hr_03_a01_bsc_enus:
- output: Within the output folder, each course component has its own folder containing its file set (which includes audio, graphic, and xml files relevant to the component).
- publish: Once you've published your course, the publish folder is generated at the course root level. It includes the final publish zip file.
- reports: This includes a complete history of all reports run on the course.
- spcsf: Once you've published your course, the spcsf folder is generated at the course root level. It contains the course xml file. This xml file is already in the Skillport Course Structure Format.
- hr_03_a01_bsc_enus.crs: This is the course source code file. Open this file in SkillStudio to customize it.
Updating Courses with Minor Changes
- Updated course IDs must match the original course ID.
When an updated version of a SkillStudio course includes any of the following minor changes, the course needs to be republished, retested, and reintegrated into Skillport. With these changes, course ID and user progress remain intact on Skillport.
- Course metadata, including:
- Course Title
- Description
- Target Audience
- Duration
- Player Skin/Player Properties
- New or updated support files, including:
- Textual changes to content pages
- Textual changes to assessments, questions, and answers
- Graphics added, deleted, or modified (as long as new/deleted graphics DO NOT add new pages to the content).
Updating Courses with Major Changes
When an updated version of a SkillStudio course includes any of the following major changes, the course also needs to be republished, retested, and reintegrated into Skillport. However, changes to the architecture of the course, as detailed below, require a new course ID (instead of an update). Learner progress of the course's original version does not associate with updating a course. If learner progress is not an issue, you can republish the course as an update after you uninstall the course from Skillport.
