Job Role FAQ
The
If the admin specifies a job role on a user's account, the learner doesn't get prompted to add their own role, nor can they change their role. If the admin does not specify a job role for the learner, the learner can add and manage their own job role by selecting it from an existing list at any time from their Role and Skill Ratings page.
Skillsoft provides the following answers to frequently asked questions.
General Questions

At this time, Percipio supports 721 distinct roles covering the primary job roles most businesses use to categorize their employees, plus additional specialty roles that support Technology, Business Services, Telecommunications and Healthcare.

You can find the complete list of job roles, here.
If you need job roles that are not included in this list, please refer to adding a job role for a user.

For the role- and skill-based experience, we added roles and identified learning recommendations for each role using these steps:
-
We analyzed the marketplace for roles, which we defined as general function occupations. We used a number of data sources, such as Lightcast, the World Economic Forum, and Labor department data as well as customer input.
-
For each role, we used a combination of human analysis, AI curation, and customer feedback to identify a collection of skills commonly associated with that role among the industries that Skillsoft serves.

A learner’s role is a functional classification that defines the core responsibilities of the learner in their day-to-day job. Percipio recognizes a role as something different than a learner’s title, which is represented by the company’s internal organizational position for the role. Examples below illustrate the differences:
Examples of Roles | Examples of Titles |
Product Manager |
Sr Director Product Management |
Sales Manager |
Head of NA Telesales - Northeast Region |
Business Analyst |
Business Process Consultant Level II |
Customer Service Supervisor |
Shift 2 Team Lead |

Percipio models each role with 15-20 skills that are critical for most learners who perform that specific role. We use a combination of AI/ML (artificial intelligence/machine language) and human curation to identify the skills needed for each role.

At this time we do not publish our skill-to-role mapping, but are planning to improve this visibility in future releases.
Admin Questions

When a learner has a job role, Percipio can recommend content based on skills associated with the job role. There are two ways to specify job role:
-
The learner can select a job role from a Skillsoft-defined set of job roles

An admin can add a custom job role in the job role user attribute field.
Job role is meant to be broad in nature and known across industries. A job role maps to skills within Percipio's Skill Graph to help target learning recommendations.
The job title is a user attribute associated with the user account. Admins can populate this field during user creation from data stored in their HRIS system. The values in this field are string values and are very specific to each individual organization.

As an admin, you can add a custom job role to a learner's Percipio user account using the job role user attribute.
Custom roles are automatically mapped to recommended skills for that role using Percipio’s Skill Graph. Adding a custom role to a learner’s profile disables the ability for learners to change their role selection.
