About Blogs

Blog is an abbreviated version of weblog, which is a term used to describe websites that maintain an ongoing chronicle of information. A blog features diary-type commentary and links to articles on other websites, usually presented as a list of entries in reverse chronological order. Blogs range from the personal to the political, and can focus on one narrow subject or a whole range of subjects.

In general (although there are exceptions), blogs have several things in common:

Wikis Versus Blogs

Blogs and wikis share the same basic functionalities since both are websites, are comprised of user-generated content, and allow users to comment on the content.

However, there are distinct differences between blogs and wikis:

Multiple users are allowed to create, modify, and organise web page content in a collaborative manner.

Usually a single author. Sometimes can have multiple contributors.

Includes content that has been edited by a group or team.

Includes content posted by one author, and other users comment on the post.

Content is based on discussions.

Content is based on opinion sharing.

Contains links to other wiki pages or websites.

Content links to other blog pages or websites.

Blogs and Advanced Groups

Blogs are site-wide, that is, you cannot create blogs that are unique to a specific domain or Advanced Group.
