Skillsoft Hosting Requirements and Considerations

Skillsoft’s Hosting Service does not currently support a number of items in their server environment. Developers should make certain if they wish to deploy custom content in Skillsoft’s hosting environment that it does not violate any of the constraints detailed below.

Constraint

Example

Description

No server side scripts/executables

.asp, .aspx, .bat, .cgi, .com, .exe, .fla, .jsp, .php

Custom content cannot contain any server side scripts or executable file types; these files (either intentionally or accidentally) are a potential hazard to Skillsoft’s hosting environment and will not be permitted in native formats. Server-side scripts and executables will be denied upon receipt as a matter of client security. Skillsoft Hosting may permit executable files if they are intended to supplement existing custom content and are archived in the .zip format, but formal approval for such hosting is required.

No ColdFusion Support

.cfm, .cfml

The Skillsoft Hosting Service and Skillport particularly make use of ColdFusion technology for a number of purposes. For this reason, clients are prohibited from including any ColdFusion files within their custom content that is to be hosted by Skillsoft.

No special software mappings

virtual hosts

Custom content that requires special software installations or mappings on Skillsoft’s hosting environment will not be permitted. Understandably, the maintenance and liability implications to Skillsoft are prohibitive.

  1. Skillsoft reserves the right to refuse file sets based on objectionable content, file types, file sizes (i.e. over 50MB per course/file set), etc.
  2. Content should have each course in a self-contained folder, not require files deployed on Skillsoft hosting (such as a shared glossary or a player), and support cross-domain communication. These dependencies are difficult to manage and may result in a false testing failure or a critical production failure in the future, such as where resources or content is withdrawn for one course and affects other active courses.

Use of the EXITAU command is required for all AICC-based submissions. Please note that Skillsoft does not support CMI interactions and that content submissions must first pass the AICC Test Suite before they can be accepted for Skillsoft interoperability testing and deployment.
