Skillsoft Learning Object Templates (LOT) are HTML templates that permit clients to quickly create simple trackable content with assessment capabilities. LOT content is created in compliance with very specific LOT standards. Skillsoft’s LOT complies with the Aviation Industry CBT Committee (AICC) CMI specification and the Learning Resource Exchange (LRN) 2.0 Toolkit packaging specification.
Consisting of several HTML and JavaScript files, the Skillsoft LOT supplies you with all you need to author custom content. These easy-to-use files provide a blank canvas for creating content and, most importantly, include the back-end coding needed to make your content trackable.
In addition, using the Skillsoft LOT:
While you don’t have to use the template files to create custom content, you should realize that an in-depth understanding of the AICC CMI specification is required to independently author LOT AICC trackable content. Additionally, content authored with a third party toolset must successfully pass interoperability testing before it can be published to Skillport. This testing is a billable services engagement. Contact the Skillsoft Custom Content Solutions Group for more information.
The LOTs are not intended to be a fully-featured authoring tool with such features as objective mapping, question randomization, simulations, and so on. Consider the Skillsoft Course Customization Toolkit (CCT) or a third-party authoring tool if you are interested in these features. The LOTs are not intended for the development of sophisticated learning objects. You should not attempt to modify the restricted LOT template files (ex. .JS files) to create sophisticated courseware and deploy it on Skillport; this will cause interoperability problems. Skillsoft does not provide support for such customized templates. Additionally, Skillsoft does not intend that LOTs be used on other third party platforms and does not support them.
