Important Notes About Updating

Updated custom courses can include either major modifications, or minor modifications.

Structural changes such as adding or deleting pages, lessons, or topics are considered major modifications. When making this type of modification to a custom course, it is highly recommended that you save the course with a new Title and Course ID before you publish it to your Production site. Uploading a course with the same Title and ID will overwrite the original course. Since the structure of the modified course does not match the structure of the original course, you will very likely experience undesired behavior such as:

An updated course with major modifications can be tested on the Production site in the Course Player. Once the modified course is ready, you can remove the original version of the course and assign the newly modified course to your learners.

A course with minor updates such as modifying the text or replacing an image, does not require a new Title or Course ID. Overwriting a course with minor updates causes no adverse behavior.

Updating Courses with Major Changes

When an updated version of a course includes any of the following major changes, the course needs to be republished, retested, and reintegrated into Skillport. However, changes to the architecture of the course, as detailed below, require a new course ID (instead of an update). Learner progress of the course's original version does not associate with updating a course. If learner progress is not an issue, you can republish the course as an update after you uninstall the course from Skillport.

Updating Courses with Minor Changes

When an updated version of a course includes any of the following minor changes, the course needs to be republished, retested, and reintegrated into Skillport. With these changes, course ID and user progress remain intact on Skillport.
