Publishing Process

After your content is successfully uploaded, it is published first to the preview site (if enabled), then to the production server. There are five automated steps the Publisher follows in its publishing process:

Verify Content
The Publisher checks the course as follows:
- For modifications to the course since its conversion to the SPCSF format
- For viruses within the file
- To ensure the file will not overwrite anything on the Skillport instance
Move Content
Content is moved from your local folders to the server.
Prepare Content
Based on your selection to preview or publish content at the end of the upload process, the Publisher prepares and modifies the Skillsoft proprietary files, to ensure proper indexing for the Search-and-Learn feature of Skillport.

Preview Content
- Preview: If you selected to publish your course to the preview site for review, a message prompts you to review the course before publishing to the live site. Click OK in the message, or click My Preview Site to review and test your course.

Publish Content
- Publish: If you selected to publish your content, the course is successfully uploaded and will be available at the production site, which you selected from the drop-down menu, during the upload process. Depending on the size of your course, final publish time varies. During the final publish, you can perform other tasks on your machine, but you must leave the Publisher open until final publish completes.
  Once your content is published to a production site, you can choose Upload same course to publish the same content to another production site or Upload another course to publish another course.

Upload Publish Failure

If a never-before-published course fails during the publishing process, the course history updates with the appropriate message to show that the course failed.

Updated Publish Failure

If an updated course fails during the publishing process, the course history updates with the appropriate message to display that the course has reverted back to the original (currently published) course.
