Map Column Data

The Data Mapping section on the Add/Edit Import/Export page includes the fields used for the specific import type.

For example, the Group Requirement import includes fields needed to assign content to a group such as course Type, Due Date, Passing Threshold, etc.

The Historical Completions import includes fields needed to mark content with a completion or equivalency.

The columns in the import file must be mapped to the fields on the Add/Edit Import/Export page.

To map the data columns

  1. Open the Excel file used to create your .csv or .txt import file.
  2. For each field in the Data Mapping section, locate the matching column in the file.
  3. Add the column letter from the Excel file to the matching field. (Do not use column header name)

Important Notes

  • Fields in red are required.
  • The first column in the file must contain data or the import will fail.
  • Not all fields must be mapped. For example, if a file only contains two columns, data in other fields is not overwritten. However, if you map a column with no data in the file, the data on your site is overwritten with a blank value.
  • The columns in the file may not be in the same order as the fields on the page. Ensure you use the correct column letter for each field.
  • Column names in the file may not exactly match the field names.
  • All fields have default values that are used if the file does not have a matching column with data.
