User Accounts

Each user that accesses Skillsoft Platform content needs to have a secure Skillsoft Platform user account.

Account Creation and Maintenance

You can create and manage user accounts in the platform using one or more approaches. Any combination of approaches can be used together to accurately maintain your Skillsoft Platform user population.

Account Authentication

The Skillsoft Platform can authenticate a user in one of two ways:

  • via a user's corporate network credentials if you implement Single Sign On (SSO)
  • directly using a Skillsoft Platform User ID and password

SSO can also be used as a user account creation and maintenance approach.

The Best Approach for User Accounts

Skillsoft recommends the following depending on whether you use a SAML 2.0 Identify Provider (IdP).

Skillsoft always recommends implementing SSO just-in-time as the account creation and maintenance approach and for authentication.

Note: If you are using the Skillsoft Platform as your main learning platform, we recommend that you supplement the SSO just-in-time approach with one of the automatic approaches: either Bulk Import or Restful APIs..

When you integrate using SSO, the benefits are that:

  • Users authenticate using corporate credentials and do not have to remember separate Percipio credentials.
  • Users have immediate access to Percipio as soon as they have an account in your IdP, and are prevented from accessing Percipio if their account in your IdP is invalidated.
  • Every time a user logs into Percipio their account profile gets updated with data from your IdP.

If you supplement SSO with one of the automatic approaches, your additional benefits are:

  • You can map any of your corporate user profile fields to Percipio custom attributes creating a robust user account.
  • User profile data is automatically updated daily without administrator intervention.
  • Users who enter or leave your organization have their accounts created or deactivated in Percipio automatically without administrator intervention.

Skillsoft recommends using one of the automatic approaches: either Bulk Import or Restful APIs.
