Microsoft Teams and Instructor-led Training (Beta)

If you want to be able to have the Skillsoft Platform automatically create Microsoft Teams meetings for your instructor-led training, you can set up an integration between the two.

The integration is a two-step process. First you must register a new app in the Azure portal, then you must use the details from the Azure registration in the Skillsoft Platform to link the two.

If you choose this integration, the Skillsoft Platform does not store any personal identifying information as part of this integration. It only creates the meeting invitations on behalf of the customer admins. Percipio will store the meeting link information in a database for future use. This meeting link will be displayed to the learners and instructors only when they registered to that live class.

Register App in Azure

To register the Skillsoft app in Azure, follow these steps:

  1. With appropriate permissions to register an app, login to the Azure Portal (https://portal.azure.com).
  2. Locate the option for Microsoft Entra ID.
  3. Add an App Registration.
  4. In the page that displays, specify a name that describes the integration, such as Skillsoft platform - Teams integration.
  5. Choose who can use the application or access the API.
  6. Register the application.
  7. Once the application is registered, you need to copy the following information for use in the Skillsoft Platform:
    • Application (client) ID
    • Directory (tenant) ID
  8. Specify and save any brand identifiers.
  9. Navigate to the Certifications and secrets page.
  10. Create a new client secret and provide a description and expiration date.
  11. Immediately copy the secret and save in a secure location for use in the Skillsoft platform setup.
  12. Navigate to the API Permissions page.
  13. Add the following permissions for Microsoft Graph and ensure to select the option to Grant admin consent for the following:
    • Calendars.ReadWrite
    • User.Read.All
    • Application.Read.All
    • Organization.Read.All
  14. Navigate to Owners.
  15. Add an owner to the application in case any modifications are needed at a later date.

Complete set up of MS Teams in the Skillsoft Platform

After you complete the app registration in Azure, you should have the following information:

  • Application (client) ID
  • Directory (tenant) ID
  • Client secret

This information is required to complete the setup in Skillsoft Platform.

To complete the setup:

  1. From the admin menu of the Skillsoft Platform, go to Site Settings > System Integrations > MS Teams Integration.

  2. Copy in the three fields from your app registration in Azure:

    • Application (client) ID
    • Directory (tenant) ID
    • Client secret
  3. Specify Authorized Domains. These are any domains that may access this integration. Ensure to follow domain standards such as no spaces or special characters.

  4. Optionally, add a Service account. This service account is used when any person creates a training event instead of using that person's email address, it uses the service account email address. You might want to use this if your learners expect all training to come from a certain department for example.

  5. Select Save Changes. You can now start using the MS Teams feature when creating your instructor-led training classes.
