SkillPort 7.3 New Features for Administrators
Click any of the links below to read about the new features and enhancements for SkillPort 7.3 administrators.
SkillPort 7.3 SR1 Patch 2
As part of Skillsoft's Java-free initiative, content in SkillPort can now be identified as either Java-free or Java-dependent. This allows sites without custom content installed to control what content is made visible to learners based on whether the content is Java-free or not.
If your site is configured (using the enable_java_free_content SKP parameter) to support the new Java-free content feature, SkillPort Administrator uses icons to differentiate between Java-free and Java-dependent content wherever content is displayed.
Note: Skillport sites that have custom content installed should keep their enable_java_free_content SKP parameter setting at 0, Disabled (default) because the Java status of previously-installed custom content is unknown.
An example of Java-dependent and Java-free content icons displayed in the Catalog is shown below:
Depending on the Java-free configuration settings, Java-dependent content is available to learners in certain circumstances.
For more information, see Java-Free and Java-Dependent Content.
SkillPort 7.3 SR1
A new web site switch, Enable My Progress View Duration Fields, has been added to the SkillPort Administrator. This switch allows you to enable or disable the display of the Actual Duration field and the Expected Duration field in the learners' MY PROGRESS. The default value for this switch is no (the fields are not displayed).
Duration fields are added to the following MY PROGRESS views:
For more information, see Web Site Switches.
With SkillPort 7.3, you now have the option of making an asset a recurring asset or an asset that you can restart. For detailed information, see Recurring Assets (Compliance) in the SkillPort 7.3 Administrator Help.
Important: When the Recurrence feature is enabled and the Forced Restart web site switch is on (set to yes) a new record is created each time a learner restarts a completed course (that is marked as recurring). The new record displays in the learner's MY PROGRESS page and in all associated SkillPort reports. Skillsoft does not recommend this; instead, we suggest using only one of these options to avoid a learner unintentionally creating a new record.
Recurring Assets vs. Assets That You Can Restart
A recurring asset is a piece of administrator-assigned content that requires learners to retake it at admin-specified intervals (for example, every year to maintain a certification). Recurring assets are set in the SkillPort Admin UI when assigning content to users' MY PLAN:
An asset that can be restarted is a piece of self-assigned content that can be restarted at user-specified intervals (for example, every year as a memory refresher course). Assets that learners can restart are set in the SkillPort UI when a learner is adding an asset to his MY PLAN:
SkillSoft's Instructor-Led Training has been redesigned to match SkillPort's look-and-feel. Now, you can configure and manage ILT for your organization within the SkillPort Admin UI.
Configuring ILT in SkillPort 7.3
Managing ILT in SkillPort 7.3
You can manage ILT from the Content | ILT menu in the SkillPort Admin UI. Here, you can easily access the Course and Session Manager, the Resource Manager, or Batch Add data (such as contacts, facilities, classrooms, enrollments, courses and sessions).
In the Course and Session Manager, the ILT Dashboard provides you with a summary of details related to courses and sessions.
A keyword is a word or phrase that you can link to an asset, for example, a course or a book. If the search phrase that you enter includes that word or phrase, the linked asset is returned in the search results.
Keywords allow you to associate assets with specific identifiers, such as corporate buzzwords, job titles, skill classification descriptors, and common misspellings. This makes it easier for learners and administrators to search for and find relevant instructional material.
For more information, see Keywords.
Using the new Configuration | My Plan Settings page in the SkillPort 7.3 Admin UI, you can configure the MY PLAN folder for your learners. Here, you can configure MY PLAN to allow admins and learners to set their own due dates and set up MY PLAN reminders. You also can enable the new MY PLAN views, and select which view opens by default when a learner clicks their MY PLAN. (Regardless of what view displays, asset progress is recorded once for all instances of the asset.)
Many events that occur as learners and managers use SkillPort to manage online learning result in email notifications being sent by the system. For example, a learner can configure a My Plan assignment so that she is emailed a reminder notice before its due date.
SkillPort 7.3 introduces several major enhancements to SkillPort's notification management system:
