SCM Client Upgrades

Systems that have access to the Course Download feature and have already downloaded the SkillSoft Course Manager (SCM) application should be aware of the following.

If you install or move the SCM to a different web server directory than previous installations, users will not be automatically prompted to update their SCM software. By default, users are only prompted for the SCM software update if they use the original URL. Their local client will continue to look on the original server location for new software updates.

To get the workstation SCM installations to access a new location

• For SkillPort installations: Set the scmurl parameter (in the SkillPort lms_parameters table) to the current installation location of the SCM. When that parameter is defined, the SCM client will read that value and go to that location for software updates. If the SCM does not automatically update, the client can be upgraded by synchronizing off-line results or by uninstalling SCM and reinstalling SCM from the new location.
• For Content only installations: Users can update their SCM installations from any SCP or Simulation course summary page. Click the Install/Update SkillSoft Course Manager link and then click the Update link on the SkillSoft Course Manager (SCM) Installation page.

  Note: To configure the Update link, you must select the Generate .SSO Files option during the server installation.

To run SCM in registry-free mode

If you are running SCM in registry-based mode and would like to run SCM in registry-free mode, upgrading your SCM to the latest version will automatically remove the registry settings.
