Custom Business Objectives
Business objectives help you align your assignments and learning programs to your business goals and initiatives. When you create an assignment or learning program you associate it with a business objective. You can then use Percipio learning program and assignment dashboards and reports to look across your business objectives to see how many assignments and learning programs you have for each objective and track the progress your employees are making in them. Dashboards and reports that show business objectives include:
You can then look broader to see if any of the learning is impacting your business goals and initiatives. Based on those results, you can assess whether you need to add, update, or retire any of your assignments or programs. When you use business objectives you are helping to make the case that learning is beneficial to your organization's health and well-being.
Skillsoft provides a standard set of business objectives and also lets you create up to 10 active ones of your own.
Get started with business objectives
To locate both Skillsoft and custom business objectives and the actions you can take on them, from the Learning menu, select Business Objectives.
You see two tabs for managing both your Custom and Skillsoft objectives. For each tab you see a table that you can sort and filter with the following columns:
- Objective title: The title of the business objective.
- Status: Whether the objective is active (in use) or archived (no longer in use).
- Number of associations: How many total assignments and learning programs have this objective selected.
- Created by: The first and last name of the person who created the objective.
Only site and domain admins can create, edit, delete, and archive custom objectives.
Custom business objectives
You can create up to 10 active custom business objectives. Before creating any, we suggest you work with the Human Resources, talent, and learning professionals in your organization to standardize on what they should be. If you have questions about how best to go about defining custom objectives, reach out to your Skillsoft account team.
Creating business objectives
You can create a custom business objective from the Business objectives list page or within the workflow of the assignment or learning program. After you create a business objective, it displays in the Business objective drop down list of the assignments and learning programs work flow. You can create as many objectives as you want, but only 10 can be active at a time.
When creating an objective, you can choose to specify the objective in multiple languages. This helps your admins working in their native language to see the objective translated in the Business objective drop down list when creating and editing assignments and learning programs. The translated objectives also show on the assignment and learning program list pages in the Objective column when the admin's site language is set. If you do not add a language and its translation, the admin working in their native language will see your objective in English both in the drop down list and on the list pages.
Editing, deleting, and archiving objectives
Find options for editing, deleting, and archiving objectives in the Action column under the three dot menu.
You cannot delete a custom business objective that is associated with an assignment or learning program. You cannot archive a custom business objective if it is associated with an active assignment or program.
Things to note when you archive or edit an associated business objective:
- When you archive an objective, the assignment and learning program must also be archived.
- Archived objectives no longer display in the drop down list in the assignment or learning program workflow, but you can still report on it.
- If you delete a business objective, it no longer displays in the drop down list or in reports.
- If you edit a business objective, all associations are updated with the revision.
You can see which assignments and learning programs are associated with each objective. From the Number of Associations column, select the hyper-linked number. You see a list of all assignments and programs associated with that objective that you can sort and filter.
