Content Settings
Skillsoft partners with many content providers to give your learners access to the best resources available to improve their skills. In most cases learners do not know they are accessing partner content because it is integrated within Skillsoft areas, subjects, channels, Aspire Journeys and Career Journeys.
To access Content settings:
-
From Settings, select Site configuration.
-
From the left navigation, select Content settings. Available settings include:
Included Content
Skillsoft makes no guarantees for partner content, that is why we offer three switches to allow you to control what your users see:
Skillsoft makes partner content packages available for customers to license. Skillsoft makes no WCAG accessibility claims for any of the content contained within these packages. Partner content is not covered by the Skillsoft VPATs.
If you only want WCAG accessible courses to be available to your learners, you can choose to remove non-accessible content from your site. The default setting is to show non-accessible content. To hide non-accessible content:
- From the Settings menu, select Site Configuration, then select Content Settings.
- Remove the check from Content that does not conform to accessibility standards detailed in Skillsoft VPATs. This removes any Skillsoft or partner content from your site that does not conform to WCAG accessibility standards.
- Select Save changes.
Some partner agreements do not allow for all their content to be accessed as part of your Skillsoft license agreement. In those instances, their restricted content can still show within Skillsoft areas, subjects, channels, and Aspire Journeys, but when the learner selects to launch a restricted item, they are taken outside Percipio to purchase the content.
If you want to show the restricted content to your learners, you can opt to add the restricted content to your site. Non-restricted items always show to learners as part of their license distribution. The default setting is not to show restricted content.
To show restricted content available for purchase:
- From the Settings menu, select Site Configuration, then select Content Settings.
- Check the Content that requires additional purchases setting. This displays the content that requires additional purchases.
- Select Save changes.
When a learner selects to launch Global Knowledge (GK) content, they are prompted to enter their first and last names and their email address before they can access the content. This personally identifiable information (PII) is stored with GK and not Percipio. GK does not market direct to the learner using PII gained in this way.
To hide GK content requiring PII:
- From the Settings menu, select Site Configuration, then select Content Settings.
- Remove the check the Content that requires personally identifiable information (PII) setting. This hides the content that requires users to enter their first and last names and email address.
- Select Save changes.
This switch does not apply to other partner content such as labs from Microsoft and cloud training from GCP, AWS, and Azure. These vendors may prompt learners to enter first and last names and their email address to enable hands-on learning experiences. This PII is stored with that vendor who abides by their own privacy policies. If you do not want to show this content to your users, you must hide it using the Hide content feature.
Playback Control
To help meet compliance requirements, you can set the allowable playback speeds learners can use for content. The setting is enabled by default.
When Allow learners to increase the playback speed when listening to or watching content is checked, learners see options to playback Skillsoft courses, videos, audiobooks, and audio summaries faster than normal speed. When unchecked, learners only see options to playback at normal or slower speeds.
Translated Closed Captioning
There are two settings under this section:
- Include English (US) content in localized search results: Selected by default, this setting shows the learner English (US) content that matches their localized query, including courses that contain captions in their local language.
- Allow localized closed captioning: Selected by default, this setting allows your learners to view closed captions in another language when they play a supported Skillsoft English course. Not all English courses support translated closed captions. All languages are selected by default. You can unselect languages that you do not want to offer your learners. Closed captions are machine-translated and fluency may vary. Translations do not apply to in-video text, knowledge checks, or course tests. This feature is only available for Skillsoft courses, not custom courses or Skillsoft compliance courses.
For more information about the learner experience, see Courses with Translated Closed Captions.
Global Knowledge Live Course visibility
Global Knowledge (GK) instructor-led training courses take place around the world and are offered in multiple languages. This setting allows you to select which country's course schedule displays when a learner views the Live Course calendar.
Live courses in a country are most often delivered in the national language of that country.
Countries shown with Funds allocated are those that have available funds for learners to use when they register — learners must select pre-pay as the payment option to take advantage of these funds.
Additional countries can be displayed to learners; however, learners must select either credit card or purchase order to register. If you need an approval process added to Percipio, please contact your Skillsoft account team who can set that up for you.
For learners to see all GK content, you must also create a license distribution between the Percipio ILT license pool and the audience who should have access to the content.
Registration settings
You can determine how Percipio manages inactive learner registrations for your Live course (instructor-led) classes.
When you check Cancel Inactive learner's custom instructor-led training registrations, Skillsoft Percipio automatically cancels all future registrations for inactive learners so the administrator or instructor does not have to, which automatically frees up seats for active users.
