Document Submission

Document submission items are instructions for learners to upload an artifact so that you can verify they have attained a skill. You can add a document submission type to a journey, channel, assignment, or learning program.

We recommend that you create a separate document submission item for each container type because if a learner adds an artifact under one container, the document submission item gets completed for all containers and cannot be restarted.

Document submissions are made available to learners when you:

  1. First, add the document submission item using the create process.
  2. Then, add the document submission item to a channel or journey and publish it. Learners have to be in an audience that has access to the channel or journey to see the content. Or add the document submission to an assignment or learning program.

After a learner adds an artifact, they can see their submissions on the My Learning Activity > Submissions tab.

You can see all learner submissions from the Learning > Learner Submissions page.

Actions you can take on a document submission include:

Document Submission Workflow

The end-to-end workflow for the document submission process is as follows:

  1. Enable the document submission setting from Site settings > Site configuration > Site features.
  2. Create a document submission item from Content > Content items.
  3. Add your document submission item to a channel, journey, assignment, or learning program.
  4. Learner launches the document submission item. Depending on how you set it up they may:
    1. Read the provided instructions.
    2. Download the template and complete it (optional).
    3. Upload finished file. Skillsoft stores the file in a Skillsoft-managed Amazon S3 facility.
  5. After the learner uploads the file, the following happens:
    1. Learner receives a completion of the document submission item. Activity shows on reports.
    2. Learner sees the file in their Learner activity. They can download or delete the item from there.
    3. Admin sees the uploaded file from the Learner Submissions list. The admin can view, download, or delete the submission from this list.
    4. Admin can run reports and see the completion for the document submission item. Additional approval workflow is coming soon.
