Scoring a Simulation

When a user takes a SkillSim in SCORE or TEST mode, completes all of the scenarios, and user did not have a summary failure, the score is passed to the LMS.  If the user fails the simulation with a summary failure, their score is reported as 0.

SkillSims have one score.  The simulation must be in SCORE or TEST mode. The score is not calculated and returned to the LMS until the user completes all scenarios in the Simulation.  The score is calculated as the number of correct objectives/the number of tested objectives.  An objective may be encountered multiple times within a Simulation.  An objective will be counted as correct if the user responded appropriately more times than they responded fairly and inappropriately as in the following example:

Example

SkillSim has 10 objectives.  The three numbers represent the number of times the user responded Inappropriately, Fairly, and Appropriately.  For example, , "1, 1, 3" means 1 inappropriate response, 1 fair response, and 3 appropriate responses.

The user encountered the objectives multiple times throughout the stimulation, and had the following responses:

  1. 1,1,3    ==> 1 inappropriate + 1 fair vs. 3 appropriate = passed
  2. 2,0,1    ==> 2 inappropriate + 0 fair vs. 1 appropriate = failed
  3. 1,0,3    ==> 1 inappropriate + 0 fair vs. 3 appropriate = passed
  4. 0,2,2    ==> 0 inappropriate + 2 fair vs. 2 appropriate = failed
  5. not encountered, not counted
  6. 2,0,1    ==> 2 inappropriate + 0 fair vs. 1 appropriate = failed
  7. 0,0,3    ==> 0 inappropriate + 0 fair vs. 3 appropriate = passed
  8. 0,1,2    ==> 0 inappropriate + 1 fair vs. 2 appropriate = passed
  9. 2,0,3    ==> 2 inappropriate + 0 fair vs. 3 appropriate = passed
  10. 0,1,2   ==> 0 inappropriate + 1 fair vs. 2 appropriate = passed

Objectives not encountered, for example, in objective 5 , are not counted towards the score.  In the previous example, the user scored a total of 6 passed out of 9 presented, or 67%.  SkillPort or the LMS reports a score of 67%.
