User Attributes Types

There are four types of user attributes, string, list, Percipio user, and date. Using a combination of all types gives you a wide range of options for configuring audiences and analyzing data in reports. Chose the ones that best fit your purpose.

Each attribute type supports one or more values. Users with the same attribute values can then be organized into unique audiences. Audiences defined by attribute values are dynamic, meaning any time a user's attribute value is updated, they get added or removed from the defined audiences. When you make assignments or target content to audiences, users automatically see updates to their experience based on the audiences they are now in.

If you use self registration, you can configure each attribute type, except Percipio user, to display on a self registration page. For each attribute, you can add display labels in other languages, so when a user's browser is configured for that language, they see the attribute fields on the self registration page display in that language.

String attributes

  • Create a string attribute if the values you need to create are unique to each user (for example, an employee ID, a national insurance number, or a specific job title). See Create a String Attribute in the Percipio Knowledge Base for more information.

List attributes

  • Create a list attribute if the values you need to create are shared by users (for example, job roles, office locations, or departments). See Create a List Attribute in the Percipio Knowledge Base for more information.
  • Use this attribute when you want to assign users multiple values for a single attribute.
  • This attribute can be used in team automation rules to automatically create and maintain audiences.

Percipio User attributes

  • Create a Percipio user attribute if the values represent another user with a Percipio account. For example, use this type to represent a user's manager, supervisor, HR partner, division head, or mentor). See Create a Percipio User attribute in the Percipio Knowledge Base for more information.
  • This attribute can be used in team automation rules to automatically create and maintain audiences. When you create audiences using the Percipio User attribute type, Percipio assigns these audiences the Percipio user listed in this attribute as the owner of the audience.

Date attributes

  • Create a date attribute if you want your values to be in a date format (for example, a hire date, a birth date, or a certification date). See Create a Date attribute in the Percipio Knowledge Base for more information.
