Courses with Translated Closed Captions
Skillsoft offers content in a variety of languages, however depending on your license and the topic you are learning, you may not see a course available in languages other then English. If your company turns on Localized Closed Captioning for selected English courses, you can view closed captions in a different language when playing an English course.
We recommend using the translated closed captions when a course does not already exist in that language. This feature is only available for Skillsoft courses, not custom courses or Skillsoft compliance courses.
View closed captions in a different language
To view closed captions in a different language:
- You must be playing an English course.
If you changed your Percipio site language to something other than English and have not previously launched an English course, you only see courses in your local language. Localized automated closed captions are only available for English courses.
Change your Percipio site language to English, then search or browse to an English course and start it.
- When you are playing an English course, select the closed captions icon .
- Turn on Captions.
- Select the Caption language from the list. Percipio supports many languages for localized closed captioning. If you do not see one you are interested in, your administrator may have chosen not to offer it as a choice when configuring the setting.
Closed captions are machine-translated and fluency may vary. Translations do not apply to in-video text, knowledge checks, or course tests.
The settings you choose for closed captions persist across all English courses until you change them. If you switch your Percipio site language from English, closed captions remain on when you launch a course in the local language, but the captions only display in the that local language. You do not have the option to choose a different closed caption language for non-English courses.
Provide feedback about translated closed captions
Because closed captions are machine-translated, we ask that you provide feedback about the quality of the translation. It is with your feedback that we can improve the quality over time. To give feedback:
-
When you are playing an English course, select the closed captions icon .
-
Select Caption feedback. Two questions display for you to answer.
-
After answering the questions, select Submit response.
