Deployment Overview
Skillsoft ships the licensed content on CD, or provides download access via the Skillsoft edelivery service.
Skillsoft provides support and guidance regarding configuration and deployment of the content using the Skillsoft Content Installer Kit (CIK).
The SCORM metadata, or optionally the SCORM PIF packages, generated during the installation process must be loaded to the LMS by the LMS administrator.
SCORM specific deployment considerations:
If the SCORM content is deployed to a content server (whether through choice or through necessity due to the capability of the Third Party LMS), it is important to understand that the SCORM content must be hosted on the same domain as the LMS.
This is due to the security limitations of the standard web protocols which SCORM uses. The LMS and content players are unable to communicate with one another if they reside on different domains - therefore, content will not launch or track.
If content is integrated using SCORM PIF files (whether through choice or through necessity due to the capability of the Third Party LMS), it is essential to understand the limitations of this approach.
For each course, a PIF file is generated by the installation process that contains not only the course content but also a copy of the Skillsoft player. This means that the only way to "upgrade" to a new version of the player is to recreate new PIF files for every course and reinstall them to the LMS.
Tracking and Reporting of usage
Courseware launched is tracked directly in the LMS, according to the SCORM guidelines. The LMS administrator uses the LMS reporting tools to report on usage of Skillsoft content.
The Skillsoft course players can be configured to support reporting of completion status to the LMS based on a number of different criteria, for example achievement of a test score at a set level, or viewing each page in a course, or both.
