Test Process

Step 1 - Confirm your Web Server meets the Skillsoft Minimum Requirements

Skillsoft eLearning content must be deployed to a Microsoft Windows-based Web Server.

Step 2 - Confirm your Client Machines meet the Skillsoft Minimum Requirements

The first step to successful testing of Skillsoft content is to ensure your client PCs meet the minimum technical requirements. The quickest way of confirming this is by using Skillsoft's online browser test tool at: http://browser.Skillport.com.

This automated test validates that your client's browser supports Skillsoft elearning, and provides self-guided help in resolving identified issues.

Step 3 - Download the Skillsoft Content Installer Kit (CIK) and Sample Courses

For details about where to download these files, please contact your Skillsoft Account Team.

The Skillsoft CIK is the main package that includes all the Skillsoft players as well as the Installer program that copies the Skillsoft courses onto the web server, generates the AICC metadata, and edits the Skillsoft player configuration.

Step 4 - Review the Documentation

The Installation guide, integration guides and answer keys provide all the necessary documentation to allow you to successfully install, configure, and test the Skillsoft players.

Step 5 - Prepare the Content Installer Kit

Extract all the files from the content installer kit, ensuring that the paths within the ZIP file are maintained. This creates a directory structure where the main folder name CIK_RELEASE_yyyymmdd changes depending on the current version of the Installer Kit.

Copy the course ZIP files without unzipping them to the course's subfolder.

Step 6 - Installation

Once you have prepared the installer kit, you are ready to install and configure the Skillsoft players.

  1. Run the INSTALLER.EXE program and follow the instructions in the installation guide. This will create the content folders and copy across all the necessary files to the Web Server for you, and generate the SCORM integration files.

Note: If generating SCORM PIF packages, you must configure the Skillsoft players when prompted as the player and configuration files form part of the SCORM PIF files.

  2. Configure IIS Virtual directory and, if using Windows 2003, ensure the MIME type settings are correct.
  3. Configure the Skillsoft course players for SCORM communications mode, unless already configured for PIF files.
  4. Load the SCORM content into your LMS and test the launch and tracking of the e-Learning content.
