Importing a File

You can import content from the following types of files into Dialogue Design:

• Microsoft Word: *.doc, *.docx
• Microsoft PowerPoint: *.ppt. *.pptx
• Microsoft Excel: *.xls, *.xlsx
• Adobe PDF files: *.pdf
• Adobe Flash: *.swf
• Images: *.jpg, *.gif, *.png, and *.bmp
• Dialogue recorded sessions: *.drs, *.mdrs
• Dialogue Design presentations: *.prs, *.mprs
• All audio file formats, including *.mp3, *.mp4, *.aac, *.wav, (*.*)
• All video file formats, including *.mp4, *.avi, *.vp8, (*.*)

Notes:

• An imported file can have a maximum file name of 122 characters. File names exceeding this limit will result in publishing errors.
• You can only import a mobile (.mprs) file into another mobile presentation. You cannot import a .mprs file into a desktop (.prs) file. Similarly, you cannot import a .prs file into a .mprs file.
• Certain audio types (for example, .mp4) can only be added to mobile presentations.
• For desktop presentations, audio can only be added after a slide contains other content. It cannot be the first thing added to a slide.
• In Windows 2000 and Windows XP, if you don't have Administrator rights, a message will be displayed indicating that you cannot import Word, PowerPoint, Excel or PDF files. This is a problem in Internet Explorer 5.0 and 6.0, which was corrected in Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1. For more information see http://support.microsoft.com/.
• Also when you attempt to import Word, PowerPoint, Excel or PDF files, the File Download dialog box will be displayed. To stop the dialog being displayed, de-select the Always ask before opening this type of file check box in the File Download dialog box. For more information see http://support.microsoft.com/.
• In the case of Dialogue Design presentations (.prs files), you can only import presentations created in Design 2.0 or later or those created using the Recording Editor.

To import content from a file

1. In the Presentation Layout pane, select the Topic, Sub-folder, or slide that the asset should belong to.
2. Click New Slide > Import File on the menu, or click on the toolbar.

   The Import dialog box displays.

3. Select the type of file from the Files of type drop-down list.

   Note: If you are importing PowerPoint slides with embedded audio, make sure that the audio is in .wav format with a sampling rate of 5512 Hz, 11025 Hz, 22050 Hz or 44100 Hz. If the slides contain audio with a sampling rate that is outside the given range, you will not be able to import the slides. For information on the audio file requirements, see About Audio.

   Also, when you are importing PowerPoint slides, all the links in the slides will be imported into the presentation and published in the on-demand course.

   If the slide transition duration is set for a PowerPoint slide, that duration is applied to the slide in Dialogue Design as well.

4. Browse to the location where the file is located and select the file.
5. Either double-click on the file or click Open.
   • The file will be imported into Dialogue Design and will be added under the selected Topic, Sub-folder or slide.
   • Word files and PDF files are imported as a single slide even if the document has multiple pages. You can scroll through the pages in the Presentation pane.
   • PowerPoint presentations get imported as several slides, one slide for each slide in the PowerPoint presentation.
   • Excel sheets get imported as a single slide. If the Excel sheet contains multiple tabs these will be displayed in the Preview pane.
   • JPEG files and Bitmaps get imported as a single slide.
   • Flash files and Dialogue Recorded Presentation files files get imported as a single movie slide.
   • Content from Dialogue Design Presentations (.PRS files) is added after the selected Topic, Sub-folder or after the Sub-folder which contains the selected slide.

     Note: When you import a Dialogue Design presentation into another presentation, the Import PRS window is displayed so you can select the slides to import. For more information, see Importing a Presentation File.

     If the file is password protected, you are required to enter the password during the import process.

     You will have to enter the password each time you navigate to the password protected slide(s). This applies to all types of password protection except Restricted Permission, where the file will be imported and will ask you to change the permission of the file by contacting the owner in order to preview it.

6. If desired, change the slide name. By default, the file name is added as the slide name. For PowerPoint slides, the slide names are used.
7. If desired, change the position of a slide in the presentation by dragging and dropping it to a new location in the Presentation Layout pane.
