Coursera for Business as a Content Provider

Percipio’s open platform capabilities enable a turnkey integration for Coursera for Business, a provider of online courses. If your organization licenses Coursera for Business and you integrate it with Percipio, you will see the following benefits:

  • One access point for learners to discover and launch all content accessible to them: When you import and curate Coursera for Business content into Percipio, learners can access all their content from Percipio. To help provide a seamless experience when learners access Coursera for Business content, please reach out to your Skillsoft account team for configuration details.
  • Automated content import and management: You can import all your purchased/licensed Coursera for Business content into Percipio with a weekly automated sync. This automated sync facilitates content life-cycle management regarding content additions, metadata updates, and removals so everything on Percipio is always in parity with the Coursera for Business platform. You can view import history to check.
  • Ability to curate content into channels, journeys and assignments: After you make the content available to learners, you can create custom channels and journeys adding both Skillsoft and Coursera for Business content for a meaningful experience for your learners.
  • All learning activity tracked and captured in Percipio reports: When learners launch and complete Coursera for Business content in Percipio, their activity is automatically captured in Percipio. Although the synchronization happens daily, it can take up to 48 hours to see activity reflected in Percipio reports and on the learner's activity dashboard.

Import Coursera for Business content into Percipio

To add Coursera for Business as a content provider, your organization must have a license for and administrative access to Coursera for Business and your Skillsoft account team must have enabled the Coursera for Business integration within Percipio.

You may also need assistance from your Coursera for Business representative or a developer to get the values for these settings:

  • Client ID
  • Client Secret
  • Refresh Token
  • Program ID
  • Coursera Organization ID

If you have a developer helping you, these GitHub resources provided by Coursera for Business may be useful in determining these settings.

Once you have this information, you can enable Coursera for Business as a content provider.

  1. Choose SETTINGS > Content Providers.
  2. In the Available Providers section, choose Coursera for Business, then select Add Provider. If you do not see the Coursera for Business icon, please reach out to your Skillsoft account team to enable it for you.
  3. Set the toggle to On.
  4. Enter your Coursera for Business IDs, secret, and token, then click Validate configuration details.
  5. Once valid, you can complete the configuration by selecting the default image to use or browsing to upload a new default. While images from Coursera for Business are included in the import, this default is used if no image information is available for a content item.
  6. Save your settings by selecting Save Configuration.
  7. When you are ready to import the content, select Publish Content.
    • Once imported, all content is contained in one custom channel. The custom channel is a system-only channel “Coursera” and is not viewable from the Content -> Channels page.
    • The import includes only the locales/languages that Percipio supports.
    • Admins can view the content imported in the All content listing by title report by sorting on Source = Coursera.

Make Coursera for Business content available to learners

After you publish the content, the next step is to make it available to the people who should have access to it. You have two options:

When you want to allow users to search for all Coursera for Business content, those users need to be a member of an audience. You then need to associate that audience with the Coursera system channel.

To allow users to search for all Coursera for Business content:

  1. Select Users -> Audience management.
  2. Either locate an existing audience and edit it or create a new one. You see the Audience details page.

  3. From the Content Association section, select Associate custom channels.
  4. Locate Coursera from the list and select the plus icon and then select Associate to audience.
  5. Save your changes or create your audience. Users in this audience can now search for Coursera for Business content.

After you make the association, user can find Coursera for Business content by entering the word Coursera as part of the search term or filter search results using Source = Coursera. If you want learners to also be able to browse for the Coursera for Business content, see allow users to browse for Coursera for Business content.

You can add Coursera for Business content into custom channels and journeys so users can browse for it, just like other content. We recommend that you create multiple channels or journeys and add content based on topic or need instead of adding all Coursera for Business content into one channel.

To allow users to browse for Coursera for Business content:

  1. Ensure the admin who is creating/editing the custom channel or journey has access to the Coursera system channel. To grant access to the system channel, see allow users to search for all Coursera for Business content.

  2. Once the admins have access to the Coursera system channel, they can create custom channels and journeys.

    By default, when you create a custom channel or journey, it is available to all users. However, you can associate the custom channel or journey to just a specific audience. Whichever audience has access to the Coursera custom channel or journey can view it from the library and locate its content by searching.

View Coursera for Business content import history

To view the import history of your Coursera for Business content, select View import history.

The View import history page shows you the weekly sync statistics for the content import, including:

  • Status
  • Date of import
  • Number of imported assets
  • Number of curated assets
  • Number of updated assets
