getAbstract as a Content Provider

Percipio’s open platform capabilities enable a turnkey integration for getAbstract, a provider of online courses. If your organization licenses getAbstract and you integrate it with Percipio, you will see the following benefits:

  • One access point for learners to discover and launch all content accessible to them: When you import and curate getAbstract content into Percipio, learners can access all their content from Percipio. To help provide a seamless experience when learners access getAbstract content, you can establish single sign-on (SSO) between Percipio and the getAbstract platform. You can configure single sign-on using Percipio as an IDP model or your own IDP.
  • Automated content import and management: You can import all your purchased/licensed getAbstract content into Percipio with a weekly automated sync. This automated sync facilitates content life-cycle management regarding content additions, metadata updates, and removals so everything on Percipio is always in parity with the getAbstract platform. You can view import history to check.
  • Ability to curate content into channels, journeys and assignments: After you make the content available to learners, you can create custom channels and journeys adding both Skillsoft and getAbstract content for a meaningful experience for your learners.
  • All learning activity tracked and captured in Percipio reports: When learners launch and complete getAbstract content in Percipio, their activity is automatically captured in Percipio. Although the synchronization happens daily, it can take up to 48 hours to see activity reflected in Percipio reports and on the learner's activity dashboard.

Import getAbstract content into Percipio

To add getAbstract as a content provider, your organization must have a license for and administrative access to getAbstract.

You may also need assistance from your getAbstract representative or a developer to get the values for these settings:

  • Client ID
  • Client Secret
  • Languages
  • IDP: either Percipio or third party
  • Image

Please get in touch with getAbstract team for assistance with these values.

Once you have this information, you can enable getAbstract as a content provider.

  1. Choose SETTINGS > Content Providers.
  2. In the Available Providers section, choose getAbstract, then select Add Provider.
  3. Set the toggle to On.
  4. Enter your getAbstract IDs and secret.
  5. Select an IDP. You can choose to use either Percipio or a Third party.
    • If you select Percipio for a seamless user experience, then select Generate IDP Metadata. This generates a file that you can Copy and send to the getAbstract team to configure the SSO on getAbstract side.
    • If you select Third party, contact the getAbstract team to configure the SSO on getAbstract side.
  6. Once valid, you can complete the configuration by selecting the default image to use or browsing to upload a new default. While images from getAbstract are included in the import, this default is used if no image information is available for a content item.
  7. Save your settings by selecting Save Configuration.
  8. When you are ready to import the content, select Publish Content.
    • Once imported, all content is contained in one custom channel. The custom channel is a system-only channel “getAbstract” and is not viewable from the Content -> Channels page.
    • The import includes only the locales/languages that Percipio supports.
    • Admins can view the content imported in the All content listing by title report by sorting on Source = getAbstract.

Make getAbstract content available to learners

After you publish the content, the next step is to make it available to the people who should have access to it. You have two options:

When you want to allow users to search for all getAbstract content, those users need to be a member of an audience. You then need to associate that audience with the getAbstract system channel.

To allow users to search for all getAbstract content:

  1. Select Users -> Audience management.
  2. Either locate an existing audience and edit it or create a new one. You see the Audience details page.

  3. From the Content Association section, select Associate custom channels.
  4. Locate getAbstract from the list and select the plus icon and then select Associate to audience.
  5. Save your changes or create your audience. Users in this audience can now search for getAbstract content.

After you make the association, user can find getAbstract content by entering the word getAbstract as part of the search term or filter search results using Source = getAbstract. If you want learners to also be able to browse for the getAbstract content, see allow users to browse for getAbstract content.

You can add getAbstract content into custom channels and journeys so users can browse for it, just like other content. We recommend that you create multiple channels or journeys and add content based on topic or need instead of adding all getAbstract content into one channel.

To allow users to browse for getAbstract content:

  1. Ensure the admin who is creating/editing the custom channel or journey has access to the getAbstract system channel. To grant access to the system channel, see allow users to search for all getAbstract content.

  2. Once the admins have access to the getAbstract system channel, they can create custom channels and journeys.

    By default, when you create a custom channel or journey, it is available to all users. However, you can associate the custom channel or journey to just a specific audience. Whichever audience has access to the getAbstract custom channel or journey can view it from the library and locate its content by searching.

View getAbstract content import history

To view the import history of your getAbstract content, select View import history.

The View import history page shows you the weekly sync statistics for the content import, including:

  • Status
  • Date of import
  • Number of imported assets
  • Number of curated assets
  • Number of updated assets

Configure SSO

To allow learners to log in only once and access content from Percipio or getAbstract, you can configure single sign-on (SSO). You can do it in one of two ways:

When you want to use Percipio as your IDP:

  1. Choose SETTINGS > Content Providers.

  2. In the Available Providers section, choose getAbstract, then select Edit Provider.

  3. Under the IDP section, select Percipio.

  4. Select Generate IDP Metadata. Percipio provides a URL.

  5. Copy the URL and get in touch with getAbstract team for configuration and set up of SSO.

When you want to use an IDP other than Percipio:

  1. Choose SETTINGS > Content Providers.

  2. In the Available Providers section, choose getAbstract, then select Edit Provider.

  3. Under the IDP section, select Third Party.

  4. You then need to work with your Skillsoft account team to configure Percipio with SSO.
