Properties Tab

The Properties tab contains information about the course, such as the Course ID, Course Version, and release dates. The following properties are available for all courses:

• Course ID: The Course ID is a non-editable region that contains a series of numbers and letters determined at the time of course creation. See Customized Course ID for more information.
• Course Version: Enter the version number of the course (for example, Version 2). Skillsoft recommends that you use numeric values for version numbering.
• Published Duration: When a duration value has been entered for every topic, click Tools > Duration > Course Duration Information. The Course Duration Information tool enters the correct course duration in the Published Duration field at the course level, ensuring it will be published to Skillport.
• ID of Course Being Replaced: The Course ID of the original course you are editing, updating, or re-writing.
• Language: A drop-down listing of all available languages in SkillStudio.
• Changes Since Last Revision: Enter the changes made since the course was last released or revised.
• Vendor: Enter the organization name that is customizing off-the-shelf Skillsoft courses.
• Original Release Date: Drop-down lists allow you to input the date of the original release of the course. If you create a new course, enter the current release date.
• Date of Last Revision: Drop-down lists allow you to input the date the course was last edited and/or released.
• Static/Dynamic Pointer Color: A drop-down list of color choices for any pointers used within the course. The default color is yellow.
• Area Highlighter Color: Click Choose Color to select a course-wide color for all area highlighters. The default color is red.
• Minimum Time Enabled: Sets a minimum amount of time a learner must spend in a given course before the course is considered completed.
• Mark as Customized Course: Disabled in the Properties tab. The value for this field is determined when the user chooses whether or not to customize a course.
• NASBA Ready: Select this check box if the course is NASBA (National Association of State Boards of Accountancy) Ready.
• CPE Credit Qualified: Select this check box to identify the course as available with course-level testing only. No lesson or topic-level testing is made available.
• Mentored: A course must be built within a learning path in order to select this check box; this option is unavailable for courses created outside of a learning path.
• Show Self-Monitoring Screen: Select this to make the Self Monitoring screen display in the player after the Splash screen and before the Course Menu. This screen is required for Legal Compliance, ES&H, and Federal Government courses.
• Audio enabled: Select this option to disable the audio in the original course you are editing.
• HTML5 Ready: Select this option to enable the course to play in Java-free mode. When this option is selected, the Tablet Ready option cannot also be selected.

  Note: Existing courses that were not built Java-free using SkillStudio must be updated and republished in order to play in Java-free mode.

• Tablet Ready: Select this option to enable tablet-ready content. This check box is cleared by default. When this option is selected, the HTML5 Ready option cannot also be selected as tablet-ready content is already HTML5 ready.

  Selecting this option:

  • Automatically selects the desktop mp4 option on the Video tab. The flv check box is cleared by default, but can be selected if desired.
  • Creates the new audio metadata.
  • Creates the new tabletReady attribute with a value of true.
  • Ensures that when the SPCSF file is created, it will contain the new <_tablet> element.

  Clearing the check box:

  • Removes AAC from audio metadata.
  • Sets the tabletReady attribute to false.
  • Ensures that when the SPCSF file is created, it does not contain the new <_tablet> element.

    Note: When you clear the Tablet Ready check box, you remove mp4 references from the course. The flv check box remains selected, but is now editable so that you can remove flv support from the course if you do not require this.

• Phone Ready: This option is not directly selectable. To create a Phone Ready course, you must select the Performance Support Video Course option first. The Phone Ready option is then automatically selected and grayed out.
• Performance Support Video Course: Select this option to identify the course as a Performance Support Video (PSV) course. PSV courses typically include up to 25 video topics with a single Video Standard Caption page per topic. However, these courses may also include standard topics with non-video pages, as well as other video page types.

  This option is enabled only for the following course types: Business Skills, IT, IT Desktop, Compliance, Financial Services, Federal Government, and Generic Course.

  This option does not display for the following course types: Practice Lab, Assessment Only, Test Prep, Final Exam, and Certification Practice Exam.

  Selecting the check box:

  • Automatically selects the Phone Ready option. You cannot clear this option.
  • Disables the HTML Ready option.
  • Automatically selects the mp4 option on the Video tab. You cannot clear this option.
  • Disables the Launch Button option on the Writing tab for the Video Standard Caption template. The associated Button Text and HTML File presentation item fields are also disabled.
• Include Glossary: Select this option to include a Glossary link on the generated Resources HTML page for the course. For new courses, this option is not selected by default. For previously created courses, this option is automatically selected.

  This option is not enabled for the following course types, which do not provide the option to view the glossary in the course player: Practice Lab, Assessment Only, Test Prep, Final Exam, and Practice Exam.

• Course Graphic: Click Browse to select an image on your computer to display a thumbnail graphic in video courses in Skillport and players. For more information, see Add a Thumbnail Image to a Course.
• Retina Scale: A drop-down listing of available retina scale values for all new graphics added to a course in SkillStudio. For each graphic, its retina value will be used to translate the native resolution of a graphic to the desired display resolution.

Additionally, when creating or editing Assessment Only courses, the following properties also display:

• Minimize question repeat: If selected, the course player will display objective questions which have not been displayed in any previous test attempt in the current player session. Once all questions for an objective have been displayed, then previously displayed questions may be repeated in subsequent test attempts.
• Questions Post-Test (%): This specifies the percentage of objective questions to display in any course or lesson Post-Test. For example, a value of 100% specifies that if an objective has a pool of 10 questions, then all 10 questions for the objective will be displayed in the Test. This value can be overridden by the same attribute if specified at the objective level.
• Max Questions Post-Test: Specifies the maximum number of questions to display per objective in any course Test. This is used to place a maximum cap on the number of questions per objective. For example, if Questions Post-Test is set to a value of 50 for an objective with a pool of 10 questions, normally the number of questions displayed for the objective would be 5. However, if Questions Post-Test is set to '2', then only 2 questions for the objective would be displayed in the Post-Test. This value can be overridden by the same attribute if specified at the objective level. If an objective level attribute is not defined, then this default course level value applies.
